Association of Surgeons in Primary Care (ASPC) was formed in 2006 by Raj Dhumale. He was the founder and the first President of ASPC. The concept of offering secondary care services in primary care was initiated by Raj Dhumale in
1994. Raj Dhumale was nominated as the Dr of the Year UK in 1997 for this innovative service. Unacceptable waiting times for routine surgical procedures that could be safely performed in primary care under local anaesthetic was the catalyst for the this concept. DOH was very supportive of this concept under the Care Closer to Home initiative.
BANSV (British Association of No Scalpel Vasectomy) amalgamated with ASPC in 2011.
The ASPC merged with British Association of Non-Scalpel Vasectomists (BANSV) in 2009. Over the years, ASPC has grown in stature and the audit compilation has been its great strength as documentary evidence of the work carried out by our members. In order to maintain its relevance, all members need not only to work collaboratively but also to contribute individually.
In the ASPC blog, I will be aiming to post information relevant to our members regularly. To this end, it would be helpful if members could send me any information that they feel would benefit the rest of the group.
